    Description 826 Boston is a nonprofit writing, tutoring, and publishing organization where students in grades K-12 and beyond can share their stories, amplify their voices, and develop as leaders in school and in life. Each one of our dedicated volunteers fuels 826 Boston’s free programming by offering individualized support for students and by lowering the student-to-adult ratio in Boston Public Schools classrooms and in our Tutoring Center. We encourage tutors of all backgrounds to apply, and we especially seek volunteers who identify as Black, Indigenous, Hispanic, Latinx, LGBTQ+, and/or multi-lingual. We anticipate having both remote and in-person volunteer opportunities.
    Commitment Volunteer shifts range from 1 to 3 hours during the school day but there are additional shifts available after school. The number of days a week you are committing to volunteer is dependent on the role that which you apply.

    Description One-on-one academic tutoring is one of the key ways to get involved at AFH as a volunteer. As an after-work supplemental program, tutoring provides critical support to AFH teen employees to ensure a stronger pathway toward academic success and beyond. Volunteering at Artists for Humanity means doing something that matters by helping teens to reach their academic goals and advance toward a successful high school graduation.
    Commitment The tutoring program is one of AFH’s teen employment benefits and runs during the school year: on Monday and Friday afternoons, and after work hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

    Description While the Greater Boston area has not seen a reported increase in violent incidents, the increased frequency of vicious anti-Asian crimes in cities and towns across the United States has left Asian residents around Chinatown Boston in a state of unease. For some, this growing threat unfortunately extends what has already been a long year of isolation and hardship, following on the heels of an already trying pandemic. To help senior and other at-risk Asian residents around Chinatown to mitigate fear caused by anti-Asian racism, AACA is bringing together organizations and individuals across Chinatown to launch a new community service program – AACA’s Bayara program, Buddy Guards for Chinatown. Volunteers from the program accompany seniors from their homes to the store, to medical appointments, or other stops around Chinatown, giving seniors the comfort of having strength in numbers.

    Description Designed specifically for low-income and homeless bilingual women, their program trains women with invaluable language skills to become professional medical interpreters.At every program session, volunteers entertain children and keep them safe while their mothers are studying nearby. Without this informal support, many of the mothers in our program would not be able to attend classes. Toys and activities are provided by the organization.

    Description In our programs and workshops, you’ll see girls and gender-expansive youth who are confronting things that scare them and learning that they have the power to change the equation; that they can avoid danger, de-escalate conflict, and, if absolutely necessary, fight back. You’ll see students learning how to keep themselves safe—but above all, you’ll see them learning about themselves; learning that they have courage, that their voices are strong and they can use those voices to set boundaries, to make their needs understood, and to shape their futures.
    Commitment Teaching Assistants attend an 18 hour training (offered three times/year in late June, mid-September, and late January) before assistant teaching in at least one LEAP Program per semester. Teaching Assistants attend weekly peer meetings as part of community or campus-based "Chapters" for ongoing training and review, as well as reflection and discussion on social justice issues such as self-care, race, gender, and violence (about 3 - 4.5 hours per week total.)

    Description Opening Minds Through Art (OMA) is implemented in group sessions of 3-6 participants (artists) with dementia. Led by a facilitator, each artist is partnered with a trained volunteer/student intern on a one-to-one basis. The volunteer/student intern supports the artist with a step-by-step “hands-off” approach so that the artist creates the artwork independently. Trained volunteer/student interns meet weekly with artists for approximately 8 weeks. The art-making sessions culminate in a gallery exhibition celebrating the artists’ accomplishments while educating the public about the creative capacities of people with dementia. Volunteers help with set up and preparation of the art project, assist and connect with the artist participant through the class, and help clean up after the program. After each class, volunteers participate in the art “Huddle” where they discuss and prepare the art project for the next week. The volunteers also help prepare for the art exhibit at the end of the programs.
    Commitment Although the days may vary, volunteers will be expected to commit to meeting with artists once a week for 8 weeks.

    Description Minds Matter is a volunteer-driven organization whose mission is to to transform the lives of accomplished high school students from low-income families by broadening their dreams and preparing them for college success. Our volunteers are college graduates who are energetic, committed and successful individuals who dedicate their time to supporting our students in reaching their dreams. The organization has over 2,000 volunteers in 14 cities, serving over 750 students.
    Commitment Mentoring sessions take place on Saturdays from September - May from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Sessions are held on the MIT campus and BU campus. There are approximately 25 sessions throughout the school year. Mentors are expected to attend 80% of those sessions. Mentors should be prepared to commit to two-three years as volunteers as they follow their student through the college-access program.

    Description You’re With Us! is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and a Department of Developmental Services (DDS) service provider that creates inclusion opportunities for young adults with disabilities.
